WHats the deal with Rockstar and their poor graphics. I just looked at the new pics for Manhunt 2 and while the game looks amazing, it seems like they have the same grainy game engine from GTA just built for close quarters (thus allowing for a bit more detail).I aint no graphics whore, but I am not so naive as to ignore the fact that visual appeal is an important part of a game's success, both for the casual gamers and even the hardcore, gameplay-centric players. I mean when GTA 3 came out it was dated iirc, and they did the same engine for how many years?Whats your guys' opinions?Rockstar + Bad Graphics
they used the gta 3 engine because it was primarily a game for the ps2 and the ps2 couldn't cope with much more than that. Now we have the ps3 and 360 we get some better looking stuff with gta 4.Rockstar + Bad Graphics
I agree that Rockstar's stuff looks dated, but you don't need the latest greatest graphics to make a great game. I mean, look at Twilight Princess for example. It's a great game, but visually is ugly and dated as sin. That didn't stop it from flying off the shelves and getting good reviews though. As far as MH2's grittiness goes, I feel that it was done more for an artistic atmospheric effect in order to make the game feel more raw and real. I mean you do play as a deranged homicidal psychopath in it...
Ya, didnt think about the fact that the games were built for the PS2 in mind. That actually makes it OK in my book; they didnt really have a choice in the matter you could say.And yes, Manhunt 2's grittiness definately gives it an artistic flare. I suppose you could compare it to WoW; they used a dated engine, but it serves its purpose and that is creating a good atmosphere (in addition to scalability).
