I know SupCom is known for this, but I have a pretty good PC, but supcom is the only game I have that's lagging it... only slightly. I have a dual core 3.4 pentium D, (2) 8600GT in SLi, XP, and 2 gigs of ram... My question is could I just upgrade to 8 gigs of ram and make SupCom run smooth? Becuase I know my card isn't the greatest, but even if I turn down settings SupCom will still over load it in big battles. :( so should I get 8gigs of ram?Ram %26gt; SupCom?
I thought the problem with Supreme Commander was actually its heavy CPU usage of all things. Even quad-core CPUs get stressed out on the bigger maps.
It could be RAM-heavy for all I know, but it seems that Pentium D could be bottlenecking you for that particular game.Ram %26gt; SupCom?
no....a. Its a waste of money.b. It probably wont improve performence at all.c. Its your CPU that causing problems.

Are you running XP64? Because a 32 bit system can't handle more than 4 gigs of ram. Not enough memory addresses
probaly not because supreme commander is a cpu intense game and you cpu is not that great for newer games i mean even a low end amd x2 and low end core 2 duo kill it just upgrade to one of those and it should run better also i think they came out with a patch not too long ago that fixes some bugs

My quad-core can almost run an 81k map well with lots of AI. My core2duo 2ghz runs supcom alright but it's nothing great. It's probably your CPU isn't tough enough to run the game really well. Also what size maps are you trying to play? 40k would probably be too harsh and 81 is def not that feasible. Also be sure to install all of the patches. their one patch greatly improved performance.
Yea lol XP cannot run more than four gigs of ram. Besides, anything over four, and you start bottlenecking your system and your performance decreases.
For one thing, SupCom doesn't support SLI. Apparently SLI messes up dual-monitor setup, so GPG had to choose between SLI or dual monitors. They chose dual monitors.
For another, make sure you have patched it to the latest version. Patch v3251 has significantly improved performance, especially on lower-end systems.
And for third, the game is more CPU and RAM intensive than anything else. Make sure to have a fast CPU, plenty of RAM (2 GB is enough for most maps) and at least a decent video card.
Yes it will run smoother. not is Frames but in responce and in real to unreal time. If you had an AMD machine you would run in higher FPS.

What quad-core do you have? Q6600?
I'm holding off on getting my new PC until July 22, when the Q6600 drops to around 260 US$ or so. The rest seem too expensive for the performance you get. (Note that I plan on overclocking the thing.) Right now, it's too expensive, and SupCom seems to be a sign that even dual-core isn't enough, so why limit myself by getting a dual-core now when I could get a quad-core about a month from now?
(Can't say I'm much of a RTS guy, but I might want to try Supreme Commander sometime...and who knows how many upcoming PC titles will demand not just dual-core, but quad-core systems?)
You have a pentium D, which is by far not the best out there, but it'll do. The game doesnt use more than 2GB of RAM that much BTW, so more ram is basically useless (and will actually drop performance).Your bottleneck is your CPU. It'll run the game nicely, but it might have troble on more complicated tasks (liek large maps, or if you play with the AI [AI kills performance]).Here are two possible solutions:The Multi-core Optimizer, which can drastically increase any performance issues you have with a dual core or quad core PC: http://forums.gaspowered.com/viewtopic.php?t=13032 (go to the bottom of the first post for the download)How to get SupCom (and Windows) to use 2GB or greater amounts of RAM: http://forums.gaspowered.com/viewtopic.php?t=2382%26highlight=2gb+ram(only works if you have 2GB of RAM or higher).Remeber SupCom was designed for future tech in mind. Its really not that possible to play the largest of maps with 8 players and lots of units unless you have a massively powerfull PC anyways.
Oh, and be sure to log onto GPGNet and download the latest patches. They vastly add new features and make performance much much better.

why do you have 2 8600 GT's? Why not just get a 8800?
Hey I have a amd acer with dual proccessor and a 64 it is a 3.4 with 2 gigs of ram and a 7600 gt oc with 256 mb and I run usually a medium to high on it and I have no lags at all and the graphice still look very nice even on my 32'' lcd.
Its your processor.Pentium D
Pentium 4
Core 2 Duo
Core 2 Quad
Mr. Extreme's Fantastic Wizzbopper Processor ExtraordinaireIt doesnt matter, SupCom will stress it no matter what. Its poorly optimised in this sector...I mean, it looked great with my 6600GT but when the unit count got over 40 it stuttered like crazy, and that was when my camera angle was over a blank landscape.(note: that was with my old rig, a P4 2.8GHz, 1GB memory, and a 6600GT 128MB version)
It's your CPU. Pentium D's aren't that good as dual cores. Either go for a high end AMD X2 CPU or a Core 2 Duo.

Gotta be honest, after I beat the crappy singleplayer portion I havent played it much, and not at all for the past few months. Im not big into multiplayer RTS games (skirmish is alright though), but I ought to give it a try.
