John Carmack unveils new engine ';Id Tech 5';

Here's a movie:http://www.gametrailers.com/player/usermovies/73190.htmlAnd here's a few pics:Anyway, at this point, I am not that impressed. This Id Tech 5 engine sort of looks like justan upgraded version of the Doom 3 engine. But, this is just a tech demo that was apparantly put together in about ten days, according to John Carmack. For all we know, their actualnew IP that they've been working on for a while now willlook a lot better, but we are just going to have to wait and see. Here's a quotethat probably explains why this engine isn't as graphically shocking as Doom 3 was when it was first revealed:Tim Willits revealed that id is not going to take a huge leap in game graphics for their next game as they have for their previous titles. ''We are actually holding back a bit because we want to have a lot more CPU power for the gameplay, for the interaction, for the AI, for the driving, for all those types of things.'' id's master programmer John Carmack admitted that while their next game will be an action title, it will be a new direction for id rather than a corridor themed first person shooter. ''It does have everyone (at id) certainly a little bit nervous, but it's a step we have to take.''Here's the link to that quote:http://www.firingsquad.com/news/newsarticle.asp?searchid=11937That quote is a little old, but I am hoping that it'sa true statement and just BS.John Carmack unveils new engine ';Id Tech 5';
It really doesn't look too goodJohn Carmack unveils new engine ';Id Tech 5';
Sorry, in my last sentence, I meant to say ''and NOT just BS.''
Id like to see it in motion but those screenshots are not too impressive. But I wanna see how it runs and animates because those hot air balloons look really good to me.
Eh, theres a movie. Actually the movie was on gamespot a few days ago (techincally this is old).Anyways, its amazing technology from what the video says. They can basically create a complex scene and dynamically alter textures and models I think in-game (basically it should look amazing in motion).Although the ''basic'' graphic effects like Shader technology and such doesnt seem to be too amazing compaired to upcoming titles (but still looks great), its the fact that it takes much less time to create for, and is highly flexible from what I understand.
It sounds very impressiveOh and it doesn't look that good because it was taken from what is probably a home camera
It really doesn't look too good
Looks like the Doom 3 engine modified for outdoor environments.Thats just their style, though. Dont get me wrong it looks nice, I just dont like it. Dont know how to describe it; textures look bland, and NPCs look like they have rubber masks on.
