I've been playing Diablo 2 and Titan Quest IT, but now I need a break from hack and slash. I've tried Oblivion but I don't much like 1st person, and I get lost as hell in the game. Tried NWN2 and like it, but I am not a D%26D player. The rules get confusing to me.I guess I am looking for something between D2 and Oblivion, no MMORPG. Oh, and I have finished Dungeon Seige 2.Help picking RPG

Finished em both back in the day. Done BG and the ICewinds too. Was looking for more modern.
Finished em both back in the day. Done BG and the ICewinds too. Was looking for more modern.
I haven't played a new PC game since WOW, and before that, Diablo2 at launch.
Have you tried Fable or Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic? Solid RPGs for sure.
I've also heard many good things about SpellForce 2, although I've never played it myself. Maybe someone else can fill in for me here.
Vampire the Masquerade and Guild Wars come to mind.
Have not played Fable yet.:D
Planescape: Torment? though you were looking for modern.... but it's such an incredibly impressive game, best game narrative ever, imho.Um, as suggested above, KoToR + 2, and Fable are both solid; I would suggest Morrowind but if you dont like the first person perspective on TESIV, you're unlikely to like it on TESIII, lol.
Vampire the Masquerade is also good - dark and brooding... also bugged to hell and back... and it, like Oblivion masquerades in the first person realm.
Oh, and what was your opinion on TitanQuest? I've never tried it, and I've just finished playing through Planescape and Fallout II, I want a hack-and-slashy RPG for when I'm done with Dark Messiah, lol

Go ahead and get immortal throne, it adds a lot. I actually liked it better the second time through.
I could make it through them if I could fine detailed maps. The ones in the strategy guide, well, they suck. I hated Dungeon Seige II until I found great maps on Gamebanshee and could figure out where I was and needed to go.

As for the getting lost part, there's always the map. So how's Titan Quest? I read that there are framerate issues even on the most high-eng rigs. That true?
what about lotro?

Think Diablo 2 meets Fallout meets Baldur's Gate... with a dash of Ultima I guess... Anyway, the point is its kinda a blend of most of the wrpg style gameplay out there and surprisingly, it doesn't suck. It's actually really good!Look up Divine Divinity, methinks it just might be what you're looking for.And how could you (the main poster) have played through Baldur's Gate and STILL find Neverwinter Nights too complicated? NWN2 is leagues simpler than the ol' Infinity engine games, aka: Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment and Icewind Dale. Atleast I found it so.
Ultima is a wonderful mmo... but I haven't still tesed the new one just released
