Silkroad online is F2P, but there is an item shop for the game where you can spend real money for in game items to get you ahead. Most players do use this shop, and all F2P games have them, which means they are free in the sense that you don't need a subscription to play, but beyond that they really aren't free. Also, I wouldn't recommend Silkroad Online because it is a mindless grindfest like Lineage 2 is.
