which counterstrike?

ok ive always been a fan of fps shooters and i knew about counter strike but not to much of it to a friend of mine told me about it yesterday and he doesnt really like fps's and he said it was awsome the most realistic game hes ever played. but he doesnt own it he plays it at his friends house and doesnt know if it was condition zero or anthalogy so which should i get in terms of multyplayer and how many ppl play which counterstrike?
More people counter strike 1.6 and source than condition zero but if you buy 1.6 through steam you will also get condition zero for 10 dollars US. For 1.6 and condition zero you need half life 1 for source you need half life 2 there are different packages on steam but half life 1 and cs 1.6 plus condition zero will cost you 20 dollars US before tax while half life 2 and cs source will cost you 20 dollars US each. It just depends on how much money you have to spend.which counterstrike?
Source has a few less people than 1.6 if you look on steampowered but I think it's better. I've played both since CS 1.3 so I know them both intimately but in my opinion source has more modern aspects that add to the gameplay like the physics. Not to knock the old one because it is very good but that is more elitist than source if you're starting out.I wouldn't recommend CZ because only a fraction of people play that
I've played CS since beta 5 or so and I don't really care much for CS:S at all. I pretty much dislike everything in that game, the gun models (they are changeable though) the player models, the annoying stuff lying around on dust2 for example, and that you can't stand on it. In CS:S you can't shoot through walls, which is one of the standout features of CS imo. I don't like the overall 'feel' of the game, and finally! The death animations are ragdollish, and the best part of CS is the death animations. CS is all about headshoting people, but in CS:S they just roll over :/ you can hardly tell you got a headshot. I once saw a guy fly right at me along the floor like superman, when I shot him with an AWP in the head.CS 1.6 has worse graphics, but I really don't care :) the game is the way I want it to be, I don't play it to be immersed, graphics are just in the way, they make it harder to see stuff because everything is more cluttered etc, but then I'm a pretty hardcore CS player so you should by both games and form your own opinion.

do i have to have half 1 for 1.6 and half life 2 for source to play them?
do i have to have half 1 for 1.6 and half life 2 for source to play them?
No you don't, originally CS was a mod for HL and you would need it. Now both can be obtained as stand alone games.Oh, and another vote for 1.6 as far as I'm concerned.. :)
do i have to have half 1 for 1.6 and half life 2 for source to play them?
No you can buy both CS 1.6 and CS:S stand alone, but if you get 1.6 I would suggest just getting half-life because you can dl cs 1.6 free as a mod if you have half-life and then you would also be able to play half-life 1 and all the player made mods. Same thing with Half-Life 2, CS: S is stand alone but you can buy Half-Life 2 and it comes with it, then you would get to play the good fps that is HL 2 and you would have access to all the mods of that game. It is up to you, personally if you have a good connection I'd get everything through steam, it is just easier. Also I would go for CS:S in your case, that is if your comp can handle it. People who like 1.6 better are people who have played the old cs for a long time and can appreciate it more then source but you are new to cs so I think starting on source would be better for you. Personally I don't think the difference is too profound, but CS: S just looks great, especially on maps with HDR lighting like cs_assault. So anyway my suggestion to you wouls be to just buy the basic HL 2 package on steam which comes with CS: S, HL 2 is a great game and already there are a few good mods out for it. Though being a half-life fan myself I would suggest playing the original half-life before half-life 2 because it can be confusing story wise, but I wouldn't worry too much. There's a mod being made called black mesa source where the entire first game is being remade with the source engine. Not sure when it will be done but I would suggest playing that when it eventually comes out and filling in some gaps in the story, that is if you decide to go the Half-life 2 route.
ok ty very much guys that was my main concern was that i needed half life 2 but i think im gonna get source instead of 1.6see yas on the field....soon
