processes! help

I was just wondering when you open the task manager(i think it'S how it'S called), And you go to processus or processes(sorry my windows copy is in french) is it normal to have like 41 processes when all I have open is basicly the internet browser and my anti-virus and anti-spyware? It may sound like a stupid question but i want to know. Oh also are there any inutile processes you can stop to improve performance or whatsoever? Thanks( and sorry if its a bit hard to understand)processes! help
I have 24 open and I have steam, xfire, firefox, fraps running so I think it's on the high side but if it may depend a bit on the anti-virus programs. What you should do is google the process names and see what they come up as. You may have a lot of programs that start up with windows that aren't malicous, but waste cycles and ram.processes! help
